A dance improvisation workshop focused on sensory experience – that is, interaction with materials and objects with specific characteristics. These interactions generate a specific bodily response, which serves as the starting point for movement research and improvisational tasks. Alongside intense physical practice, there will be a pinch of neuroscience, dance and neurodiversity context.
The aim of the workshop is to explore how and by what means sensory experiences and their mental representations can become the foundation of movement research; how the concrete and tangible, through embodiment and transformation, is translated into a specific yet abstract form.
The concept of the workshop draws on three sources:
– the movement and choreography practice of the workshop facilitator;
– neuroscience in the context of dance and the latest discoveries in this field;
– an exploration of the issue of sensory neurodiversity.
We invite people with movement/dance experience to take part in the workshops. The series of sessions will form a coherent entity divided into thematic blocks.
– Easy Read
These are improvisation and movement workshops.
During the workshops, we will explore different materials and objects. We will touch them and find out what they feel like.
The materials can be soft, hard, smooth or rough.
What we feel can affect our body and movement.
We will do movement exercises and improvise.
We will explore how touch and other sensations can inspire movement and dance.
The workshops are led by a person who works with movement and choreography.
The workshops are for people who have experience with movement or dance.
