ABOUT “SHOW LANGUAGE”
“Show Language” is an international program by the Inclusive Art Center, aimed at presenting the Polish audience with the best and most artistically interesting examples of European inclusive art. The main idea of the program is to develop a new language of performative arts and theater, opening the doors to the creativity of diverse artists who contribute new languages and aesthetics to their works: neurodiversity, alternative motor skills, sign language, or poetic audio description. The works of invited creators bring new quality and change the thinking about the criteria that art should fulfill. The “Show Language” program showcases a revolution in theater and performance that is taking place globally and of which Poland is already a part. The program’s partners include the Theatre Academy in Warsaw and its branch in Białystok, as well as the Norwegian organization interart_s.
Over the next year and a half, until April 2024, various performances and shows by artists and groups such as Paweł Althamer and Nowolipie Group, Dominika Feiglewicz and Migawka Foundation, Kierstji Horn, Daniel Kotowski, Miya Masaoka, Tori Wranes, Un-Label Performing Arts Company, Aleksandra Skotarek and Theatre 21, Chris Pavia, Diana Niepce, and Karolina Wiktor will be presented on different stages in Warsaw.
The curators of the “Show Language” program are Justyna Lipko-Konieczna and Justyna Wielgus.
The “SHOW LANGUAGE” project is funded with 350,000 euros from Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway as part of the EEA funds. The project aims to jointly create a green, competitive, and socially integrated Europe.
ARTISTIC PROGRAM APRIL – JUNE 2023
GRAVITY / UN-LABEL
APRIL 5, 7:00 PM
NATIONAL THEATRE
The internationally acclaimed performance “Gravity” by the German Un-Label Theatre will be presented on the main stage of the National Theatre in Warsaw in April. The performance is another installment of the international “Show Language” program developed by the Inclusive Art Center, a new institution on the Warsaw map promoting inclusive art.
Gravity is a performance that radically changes the perception of what can be the impulse and framework for dancing and performing bodies on stage.
Imagine a chance encounter in the subway between two people who collide and clearly interact with each other. We can call it chemistry, with each seeking the first, second contact. Now imagine that one of these people cannot see, and the other cannot hear… Touch becomes a path that leads the two heroes towards each other, and their alternative communication expands thinking about what language can be and how we can communicate non-verbally, drawing on the simplest principles of physics and attraction.
Gravity is an hour-long dance performance based on an audio description script. Un-Label Theatre unexpectedly reverses the creation process and questions the assumptions related to inclusive communication. Sign language and visual language are incorporated into the choreography by the creators.
The interdisciplinary, mixed artistic collective Un-Label is synonymous with artistic innovation and diversity in Germany. The group consists of artists from all over Europe, and their performances with artists with and without limitations set new standards in the performing arts.
